What Happens on Game Day?
Game day for Volunteers start about 2 1/2 hours before kickoff. You park your car at the IBM Broadmoor parking garage and get on the super nice, airconditioned, all leather limousine shuttle bus which drops you off right at the front gate of the Q2 Stadium. It takes about 20 minutes to get from getting out of your car to check in at the stadium. You need to be at the stand 1 hour before gates open (which is typically 1.5 hours before kickoff).
After going through security and checking in, if it is your first game, you are given a Q2 shirt and Austin FC hat that are yours to keep (and reuse on future games).
You make your way around to our concession stand, the Oak Hill Grill, and come inside. The stand should be fully stocked from the end of the last game, so we are really just making sure popcorn is on and hot, counters are wiped down, and one of our Balcones leads will be there to show you the ropes such as how the orders are taken, how the computers work, etc.
Once the stand opens, we start taking orders and work until the game is over. There is no draught beer and no cash. Everything is super quick and super easy. Most of all, be yourself, have fun with the customers and make sure they come back to us. Every tip goes 100% to BYS.
We close at the 90 minute mark. It takes about 30-45 minutes to shut it down completely. Then you go back out to the shuttle, they take you to the garage and you go home and sleep with the thought that you just raised a boatload of money for the kids at Balcones AND had a really fun time as well.
If we have 10 volunteers on a night, there are enough people that everyone can take a 20 minute break to walk around the stadium and catch a little of the game.
Is There Any Other Reason I Should Volunteer?
YES!!! If we have less than 7 Volunteers, we have to hire a temporary worker to fill the slots. We have to pay for this out of our donations and costs approximately $100 per temporary worker. So we REALLY need your help.
